Family Reading Night
93 Parents and children attend our Build A Book night...

A fun-filled evening was enjoyed by parents, students and staff who attended the Matheson Park Family Reading Night on February 12th. Bronwyn Jones, our new kindergarten teacher, “kicked off” the activities with an informative presentation about Dialogic Reading. According to Ms. Jones, this kind of reading involves “taking turns in a conversation with a child about a familiar book.”
During the remainder of the evening children (and their parent/s) enjoyed writing and designing their own take home book. Individual kits to “build – a – book” were all donated by our generous PTA.
Winners of the 3 door prizes included: Sierra Williford-Archuletta, Noah Chacon and Mekal Toledo. Sierra won the game “So You Think You’re Smarter Than A 5th Grader; Noah, the game of “Clue;” and Mekal, a valentine Teddy Bear, which he immediately gave to his younger sister, Domynyck. What a sweet brother!!! In addition, 31 lucky students were able to choose a free book for their home library.
I’m certain everyone will agree this was one of our BEST Family Reading Nights ever. A huge thank you to our Literacy Committee,Title I, and PTA for making this wonderful event all happen!!!!
