A big 'Welcome Back' from your Principal, Mr Maresca
Dear Families and Friends of Matheson Park Elementary School,
It seems like it was just last week I was telling our students to have a safe summer, always wear your helmet, read every day, and I’ll see them in 10 weeks. Where did the time go?
Having said that; Welcome back! I’m glad you’re looking for information on our website. Very soon our website will have a brand new look, so make sure to watch for it. Please note that when the change occurs, you will have to register again to make sure that you continue to receive all notices which are sent out electronically. Our new Instructional Coach, Ms. Madrid, will be manning the site. When all of the updates are added you will be able to open pictures, download links and documents posted on the site, and have easier access to your child’s teacher. I’m looking forward to the new and improved site.
Welcome to our new staff members! Yvonne Madrid is our new instructional coach and comes to us from McCollum elementary school with over 15 years of experience as a teacher. Elyse Russo is our new 4th grade teacher and brings many years of wonderful experience to our school. Victoria Vigil is our new counselor and promises new and exciting changes for our school's counseling program. Becca Gauna is an intern teaching 1st grade with lots of energy and enthusiasm. Kaylee Hamilton is an experienced teacher with a large background in literacy and EDM, she will be team-teaching with Stephanie Hansen in the 3rd grade. We are thrilled to have all of these wonderful educators join our family. At this time there are no other changes as the rest of our staff is returning.
Be sure to click on the ‘Events’ link and scroll through our calendar. We are adding to it all of the time so please be sure to frequently check back for updates.
Office hours are now 8:00 – 4:30. Registration is Thursday, August 7th, beginning at 8:00am in the cafeteria. All new students will need current shot records and their birth certificate (we will make a copy on site and return the original to you immediately). Registration starts in the cafeteria, and will finish in your child’s classroom. Students that did not return their registration packets last year have not been placed in a class and will not be placed until registration is complete. I am asking every family to apply for free and reduced lunch. Our Title I dollars come from these numbers and my goal is to submit an application for every child. Your teacher will have the forms for you during registration.
First day of school for 1st through 5th grade is Tuesday, August 12th. Kindergarten students begin Thursday, August 14th. Our school day will begin at 9:00am with all classes lining up outside as they did last year. Dismissal time is 3:45pm except for Wednesday’s, which is a 1:00pm dismissal. There will be two (2) recesses every day with Wednesday having only one (1) recess. Grades are being combined for lunch, and students will have a little more time to eat before they go outside.
I have purchased planners for 2nd through 5th grade. This is a wonderful place to maintain communication with your child’s teacher. We will also have a calendar going home with our school’s events for the year listed. My goal is to not change any of these dates, but please remember to remain flexible.
Please look for newsletters going home on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month all year long.
Parks and Rec will begin registration Thursday, August 7th at 9:00am in the gym (doors will not be opened before 9:00). This is a wonderful After-School program with excellent staffing.
I have included a copy of our supply list for everyone's convenience. It can be found on the next page of this article, please click on the link at the bottom of this page (Read more...)
Welcome back, I look forward to seeing all of my students back on campus, it’s going to be a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Mr Maresca
