Ms. Shepard kicks off Matheson Park's first Literacy Night of the year

Tuesday evening, October 16, the walls of Matheson Park’s library were “busting at the seams.”  WHY???  Parents, children and staff members all gathered for our Annual Title I Parent Involvement Meeting and Family Reading Night.  Ms. Shepard, our Title I teacher, gave a brief  discussion about our Title I program for this year.  Mrs. Radtke, one of our parents, then read aloud, The Boy Who Read Out Loud.

During the evening children and parents read books while enjoying cookies, donuts and apple cider.  Thanks so much to Mrs. Williford, our PTA vice president, for contacting Steve Edwards, the manager of Albertson’s @ Juan Tabo/Candelaria who graciously donated all the goodies.  Thirty-five books were given out as door prizes and Gabriel Miller, a 4th grader, won the grand prize drawing…a 16” stuffed Teddy Bear. A special thank you to our Literacy Goal team members who sponsored this fun family event.  We set an all time record with 85 people in attendance, and eagerly look forward to an even bigger turn out for our next Family Reading Night in February.  Hope to see you there!
